Leave types in NZ

Here are the different types of leave for employees:
  • Annual leave
  • Sick leave
  • Parental leave (employer paid and unpaid) – including maternity leave, paternity leave, special leave (for pregnancy-related appointments), primary carer leave, extended leave, spouse or partner’s leave, and negotiated carer leave.
  • Bereavement leave
  • Unpaid leave – also known as leave without pay
  • COVID-19 testing absence – a short-term absence payment
  • COVID-19 isolation leave – know as the leave support scheme.
